Mosaics by

Mascot

This was a very fun project.
I had the opportunity to go to
Westwood Elementary in Coker, AL
for their cultural arts day. I would really
like to thank Sandy for the opportunity
to be a part of this project.
I gave a demonstration of how to make
mosaics.  I also talked alot, but it was
so much fun!!   I had a wonderful time
at Westwood.  The students and
teachers are great!!!  I hope they
enjoy their mascot.
Here's how I made it:
I got the picture from the school and
enlarged it.  Once it was the size I
wanted (3'x2'), I traced it on MDF and
cut out the design.  I then cut 3/4 inch
tiles into thirds.  I used three different
colors of green for the skin.  I also
used the back side of the tile to give
the surface some texture.  I used black
stained glass for the outline and for
small details.  I used white tiles and
stained glass for the teeth, eyes, and
claws.  I used gray grout and finished
the sides and back with black paint.

Mosaic Tree of Knowledge

This is a mosaic tree I made
for a client which incorporates
elements from different
departments within a
company.  All the pieces were
put together to symbolize that
everyone must work together
to become one whole
company.

I used brown stained glass,
ceramic leaves, glass apples,
glass butterflies, glass
ladybugs, pebbles, mosaic
tiles and gems on a base of
1/2in MDF.

It measures 34inX34in and is
extremely heavy, but WAY
COOL!!
